Affordable Housing and Homelessness // MPIRG students have been generating postcards from campus to students’ elected officials about the Housing Solutions Act, which they presented to state legislators at the Affordable Housing Student Lobby Day on February 28. Students will be attending the Housing Solutions Act Vigil at the Capitol in April. Students will be hosing an educational event on campus this spring about Housing and Homelessness issues. Students are also working to implement a campus kitchen.
Environment // In order to decrease student’s exposure to toxic chemicals in their everyday products, MPIRG has been working with the campus “Market Place” to stock natural sanitary products and natural food options for sale.Additional goals include phasing out Styrofoam within dining services and working with the facility’s management to get natural sanitary products in the vending machines in bathrooms on campus. St. Kate’s MPIRGers joined students from across the state at Clean Energy Lobby Day and the student forum with Governor Pawlenty on March 3.
Women's Issues // Students will be wrapping up V-month (a month to educate the campus community on issues related to violence against women) as well as working on a Take Back the Night rally on campus and in the larger community.
MPIRG's 11th Annual Take Back the Night will be held at Loring Park in Minneapolis on April 24.
