Clean Cars Minnesota // As gas prices fluctuate wildly, consumers are looking for better choices in their automobiles. Minnesotans want cars that reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources, reduce the health impacts from toxic emissions, and protect the air and the environment of our state. The Minnesota Clean Car Act would reduce emissions from cars and light-duty trucks by 30% by the year 2016. MPIRG is working in coalition to pass statewide legislation that will save Minnesotans money, protect our health, and provide cleaner air now and for future generations.

If enacted, Minnesota would become the 15 state to pass this legislation and would create a market where over 50% of the U.S. car buying population would be buying cars with similiar emissions standards.

Cars - Gridlock

Automobiles emit particulate matter, nitrogen oxide (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons. NOx, SOx, CO, and hydrocarbons from automobiles are leading contributors to air quality problems. These by-products from our cars make us more susceptible to respiratory infection, aggravate asthma conditions, and damage lung tissue. But it doesn’t have to be this way. The greenhouse gas emissions also contribute to global climate change, which impacts not only our community but the entire world.

Take Action // Contact your state representative and state senator today! Let them know that you support the Minnesota Clean Car Act because its good for our health, good for our economy, and good for our environment.
